UK loses £3.29 billion to theft by customers, staff and suppliers

The BBC has reported that the UK's retailers are losing £3.29 billion from theft. This is the highest figure in Europe and third in the world behind the USA and Japan 

Store theft up by 36%

.Tesco has reported that it caught 43,000 thieves in just the first 6 months of 2008. This is an increase of 36% from a year earlier. This equates to one shop lifter being caught every 6 minutes of every hour of every 24 hour period.

Theft of heating oil, fuel oil and diesel

The latest increases in heating oil, fuel oil and diesel have made the theft of oil and diesel a much more profitable business. We have heard of many incidences where coach, bus, lorry and even car petrol tanks being emptied. Apart from the cost of the fuel the tanks are normally damaged and need replacing meaning a cost of £1000 including the fuel for a lorry or coach. Worse still is that the vehicle can be off  the road for a few days whilst repairs are carried out. Theft of domestic fuel is also on the increase. Tanks can easily be pumped out or even stolen by lifting the whole tank onto the back of a lorry. The Disability Discrimination Act Affects You !

The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 requires that businesses or organisations providing face-to-face, verbal information should have an induction loop or other approved system fitted. Not to do so may be seen as discriminating against those persons who are hearing impaired and may render you liable to prosecution.

Compliance with the legislation had to be completed by October1st 2004. Many organisations, including the following, are affected by this legislation:
